THE GAP

Tired of Concrete Contractors Who Don't Deliver? So Was I.

Heavy construction excavator digging and moving earth at a construction site.

If you’re a builder or project manager, I already know what you’ve dealt with. You’ve engaged a concrete subcontractor who seemed capable, and somewhere between the quote and the pour, things fell apart. The documentation wasn’t there. The program slipped. And when you needed someone to answer for it, you couldn’t get anyone on the phone.

If you’re a homeowner, your version of that story probably sounds like this: a concreter who quoted one price, started the job, and found reasons to charge more. Or a driveway that cracked inside twelve months because the preparation was never done properly.

I started QCG because I spent 15 years working inside Tier 1 civil and infrastructure projects, and I saw the same gap every time. The tradies couldn’t manage a program or produce documentation. The big firms were built for hundred-million-dollar contracts and had no interest in anything below that threshold. Nobody was serving the builders, developers, and homeowners in the middle who deserved the same standard of planning and accountability.

That’s what QCG is. Engineering-led concrete delivery with director-level accountability on every single job. You deal with me directly. The documentation is ready before you ask for it. And the program we agree on is the one we deliver.

“Plan it properly. Pour it once.”

Residential Reassurance

Residential Concrete on the Sunshine Coast. Done Right, On Time, No Surprises

A properly installed concrete driveway can last 25 to 30 years. Most of the horror stories we hear from homeowners on the Sunshine Coast are from jobs that failed in the first 12 to 24 months because someone cut corners. We know you’ve probably been here before. You found a concreter, they seemed reliable, and somewhere between the quote and the finish you were chasing calls, dealing with price changes, or staring at a crack in your new driveway six months later. That’s not how QCG works.

Residential Reassurance

Most concreters who take on residential jobs come from a residential background. QCG comes from a different world.

Our director has spent 15+ years delivering Tier 1 commercial and civil concrete projects, where quality, program certainty, and zero defects are not optional.

We bring that same standard to every driveway, slab, and patio we pour on the Sunshine Coast. You get the professionalism of a commercial contractor without the commercial price tag.

Common Concrete Contractor Problems on the Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast & South East Queensland

Hired a concreter on the Sunshine Coast and still can't get them on the phone?

Finding a concreter on the Sunshine Coast for your new driveway or slab who actually turns up when they say they will shouldn’t be this hard.

In commercial construction, failing to communicate with a client costs contracts. We carry that same standard into every residential job.

When you book with QCG you get a confirmed start date in writing. If anything changes on our end, you hear from us before it becomes a problem. No radio silence. No showing up a week late pretending nothing happened.

The number one complaint we hear from homeowners about driveway concreting on the Sunshine Coast is that the price changed after the job started.

On commercial sites, variations without written approval don’t get paid. We apply the same discipline to residential work. At QCG we scope every job properly before we give you a number. That means no mid-job surprises for work that was always part of the project.

Your written quote is your price, full stop.

A concrete driveway or residential slab that cracks within a year is almost always a preparation problem.

Cut corners on the base, use the wrong mix design, or skip proper reinforcement and you’ll see the damage fast. In Tier 1 commercial environments, a defect like that triggers a formal non-conformance. At QCG we bring that same zero-defect standard to residential concrete on the Sunshine Coast.

We use the correct concrete mix, steel reinforcement placed where it should be, and a curing process that gives your driveway the best chance of lasting 25 to 30 years, not just a few seasons.

What We Do

Where Does QCG Sit?

Most concrete contractors on the Sunshine Coast fall into one of two categories. Neither one works for a commercial builder, developer, or project manager who needs engineering-level delivery without Tier 1 overhead. QCG was built to fill that gap.

RIGHT FOR

Major infrastructure only

If your project sits between a tradie job and a hundred-million-dollar infrastructure contract, QCG is built for you.

From the first scoping call to final handover, you deal with Anthony directly. No account managers, no delegating to a crew you've never met. Every pour is planned in writing before mobilisation, every ITP is completed before work begins, and every project leaves a full documentation pack. If you want to understand exactly how that process works, read on below.

How We Work

We Deliver When We Say We Will

Concrete is often on the critical path. A delayed pour doesn't just affect one trade, it affects everyone behind it. Every step in the QCG process is built to eliminate that risk before it appears. We don't price to win. We price to deliver. That protects the client, the program, and the relationship.

01

ScopingBefore the program commitment

Concrete failures rarely happen during the pour. They happen during poor scoping. Before a program commitment is made, we review drawings, confirm pour sequences, align on mix design, and identify risks and exclusions in writing. No verbal agreements. No assumptions that become variations later.

Once a quote is approved, we build the plan. Reinforcement scheduling, SWMS preparation, ITP development, access coordination, and program sequencing are all resolved before mobilisation. Nothing moves to pour stage without a clear plan in place.

Reinforcement is inspected and checked against drawings before every pour. ITPs are completed and documented. The pour does not start until that gate is closed. Compliance is built into the process, not checked after the fact.

Throughout delivery, Anthony maintains direct communication with the head contractor or client. Program progress is tracked, variations are identified early and confirmed in writing, and if site conditions change you hear about it before it becomes a problem.

A project is not complete when the last pour finishes. It is complete when compliance documentation is issued, defects are resolved, and the site is clean. Every QCG project closes with cylinder records, slump test results, ITP completion certificates, and a full documentation pack ready for handover.

Scoping

Concrete failures rarely happen during the pour. They happen during poor scoping. Before a program commitment is made, we review drawings, confirm pour sequences, align on mix design, and identify risks and exclusions in writing. No verbal agreements. No assumptions that become variations later.

Zero lost-time injuries across managed scope within Tier 1 and government safety management systems.

Who We Work With

We let the work speak. Below is a selection of recent commercial, civil, and residential concrete projects delivered across the Sunshine Coast and South East Queensland.

Head Contractors & Commercial Builders

You need a concrete subcontractor who shows up prepared, not one you have to manage. QCG integrates directly with your program, produces the QA documentation your site requires before you ask for it, and gives you a direct line to the director on every job. No labourer fielding your calls. No variations that appear out of nowhere. Just a concrete subcontractor who operates the way your site expects.

Homeowners on the Sunshine Coast

You are not looking for a lecture on concrete. You want someone who turns up when they said they would, charges what they quoted, and leaves you with a driveway or slab that looks good and lasts. That is exactly what QCG delivers for residential clients across the Sunshine Coast. Written quote, confirmed start date, and a finish you will not have to chase anyone about.

Civil Contractors & Government Projects

If your project requires ITP-driven delivery, RPEQ engineering partnership, and a subcontractor who understands what a government or infrastructure environment actually demands, QCG was built for that scope. We have worked inside Tier 1 and government safety management systems. We understand the documentation, the sign-off process, and what it means to be on the critical path of a civil project.

Developers & Project Managers

You know the risk a concrete subcontractor carries in a development program. One delayed pour can push your entire program. QCG gives you engineering-level documentation, written scope confirmation before mobilisation, and a director who understands program sequencing. The oversight of a Tier 1 firm without the procurement layers that come with it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you are a head contractor assessing a new concrete subcontractor or a homeowner planning a concrete project on the Sunshine Coast, these are the questions we hear most often.

Do I need council approval for a concrete project in Queensland?

It depends on the type of work. Most standard residential concrete jobs do not require building approval, but a vehicle crossover connecting to a council-controlled road usually requires a permit from your local council, such as Sunshine Coast Council. Concrete slabs for new structures, sheds, or outbuildings may also require building approval depending on size and intended use. QCG will flag any approval requirements identified during scoping so you know before the job starts.

Some minor surface cracking in concrete over time is normal and does not affect structural integrity. Significant cracking within the first few years is almost always caused by inadequate base preparation, incorrect mix design, or missing reinforcement. A well-built concrete slab or structure on the Sunshine Coast can last 25 to 30 years or more with proper design and maintenance. QCG uses the correct concrete mix, properly placed steel reinforcement, and a controlled curing process to minimise cracking risk and give your concrete the best chance of reaching that lifespan.

A standard concreter typically provides labour for straightforward residential pours. A commercial concrete contractor like QCG brings engineering-level systems, full QA documentation including ITPs and SWMS, program management, and a director who is directly accountable for delivery. If your project requires documentation, compliance sign-off, or program certainty across the Sunshine Coast or South East Queensland, a standard concreter is not the right fit.

Most residential concrete jobs on the Sunshine Coast are completed in a single day depending on scope and access. Concrete is typically safe to walk on within 24 to 48 hours but should not carry vehicle traffic or heavy loads for at least 7 days. Full design strength is reached at 28 days. QCG will confirm the full curing timeline before the job starts so there are no surprises.

It depends on the project scope, classification, and specification requirements. For many commercial and civil concrete projects in Queensland, RPEQ engineering sign-off is required or strongly recommended to meet NCC and AS 2870 requirements, including Form 15 and Form 12 certification. QCG operates with an RPEQ engineering partnership, which means we can facilitate that requirement without you having to source a separate engineer and manage the interface yourself.

Residential concreting costs on the Sunshine Coast vary depending on the type of work, size, access, ground conditions, finish type, and reinforcement requirements. As a general guide, plain reinforced concrete work typically starts from around $80 to $130 per square metre, with exposed aggregate, decorative finishes, or more complex pours priced higher. The only way to get an accurate number for your specific job is a written quote after a proper site assessment. Contact QCG for a residential quote with no obligation.

As a minimum, most Tier 1 and Tier 2 head contractors require a current SWMS, an Inspection and Test Plan, cylinder and slump test records, reinforcement inspection sign-off, and public liability insurance at the required level. QCG produces all of this as standard on every commercial job. We do not need to be asked twice.

Ready to Discuss Your Next Concrete Project?

If you have made it this far you already know whether QCG is the right fit for your project. The next step is a straightforward conversation. No obligation, no sales pitch. Just a direct discussion about your scope, your timeline, and whether we are the right contractor for the job.
